I agree about Nick Hornby. "About a boy" deals with loneliness and accepting people (and oneself) as they are. That one about the people trying to kill themselves and meeting on top of the building (can't remember the English title!) is clearly about how you can affect people's lives and probably how you should deal with your problems instead of avoiding them... Or that's how I feel the stories, at least.

And you're welcome. You know I love books too, and I love how you read interesting ones that I probably wouldn't hear of otherwise. ;) So I should be the one thanking you really. Hehe.

I think Nick Hornby hides a lot of complexities in the simplicity of his writing, which prevents it from becoming too trashy, despite the ease with which it can be read. The references to bands and TV shows are another thing that I love about his work, as you say, it feels like you're chatting with a friend.

He's not, as far as I know.

Thank you for reading, Blandine :)

I have a thing for Nick Hornby too. I haven't read all of his books, maybe three or four, but I like the fact that it is so casual, that there are references to bands or TV shows or just any cultural aspects of life that you can relate to in a way. It is so simply written that it feels like chatting with your best friend, yet if we all picked a pen I'm not sure many of us could come up with so many witty ideas.

And, I don't know Augusten Burroughs at all, but is he related to William Burroughs or not at all?
